ePetition Open Android Market

The Android OS for Smartphones get more and more  popular. More Devices with Android a available on the global Smartphone market and is spreaded around the World. One of the biggest Affords of the Android Architecture is the central Market Place. On one side the customers or Users can easiely find new Apps for their Phones just by using the build-in Market Search. On the other Side even Developers with a private Background can publish their App to the Market just be uploading this Apps to the Android Market. This implements some Benefits:

Benefits from the Users Point of View:

• Apps can easily be found
• Apps are installed by just a few Clicks
• Apps getting Updates on new Features or Bugfixes
• Reviews or Comments are available just in place of the Apps

Benefits from the Developers Point of View:

• Apps can easily be uploaded to the Market via Webpage
• Updates can be rolled out simultaneity
• Download and Install Stats centralized
• comfortable Method to get paid

But the Market has some big Issues:

• The Market is not available in the most of the country's
• The Market is not available on Developer or rooted Phones
• only Credit cards via Google Checkout are used to handle Payments on Customers and Developers side

As my experience of a Developer of some small Apps this results in some Problems:

• As Developer i have to upload my free Apps to markets not blocking their users due to their geographical origin ( slideme.org)
• My paid Apps have to be uploaded to a Market that gives me a comfortable Way of getting paid (not found one besides the official Market)
• In case of a Update or Bugfix i have to Upload both Versions on my App to each of the Markets they are listed in.
• The Users have to search the Updates of my Apps in their individual Market
• Persons of Norway, Irland or Switzerland are not able to purchase my paid Apps.

This is because i has to ask Google for some Improvements of the official Android Market:

• set the Market available in all Country's, at least for the free Apps
• implement a real working Copyprotection and make the Market available even on Developer and rooted Phones
• remove the Limitation of Google Checkout to Creditcards or allow us to use PayPal or other well known Payment options.

This are my wishes for the Year 2010 as an Android Developer.
